Mold inspection is a specialized type of inspection that goes beyond the scope of a general home inspection. The purpose of this Mold Inspector Certification Training is to define and teach the industry’s best practices for conducting a mold inspection of a building. Learners will acquire the skills to identify and document potential mold growth within a building by conducting a visual examination and utilizing mold sampling techniques.

This Mold Inspector Certification Training course will provide accurate and useful information for performing mold inspections of residential buildings. The training covers the science, properties, and causes of mold, as well as the potential hazards it presents to structures and to occupants’ health. Mold Inspectors will learn how to inspect and test for mold both before and after remediation.

Regulations for Mold Safety and Inspections

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) do not regulate mold or mold spores in the air. There are no federal or state threshold limit values for mold inspectors to use when interpreting the results of mold spores in an indoor environment. There are no federal or state requirements for inspectors in the sampling of mold. However, the International Association of Certified Indoor Air Consultants (IAC2) has developed a set of accepted and best practices in the industry based on research and compiled into the IAC2 Mold Inspection Standards of Practice in an effort to guide and direct mold inspection procedures considering the health and safety of both building occupants and the personnel conducting the mold inspections.

Who Needs this Training?

This Mold Inspector Certification Training is designed primarily for residential home inspection professionals. Public health and environmental health professionals who are involved with mold issues may also be interested in this course. Building managers, custodians, remediators, contractors, and other professionals who respond to mold problems may also want to enroll in this training course.
